Calgary artists Jonathan Chapman, Aj Demers and Eugene Stickland and musicians Kris Demeanor and David Rhymer have just over a week to write brief and brand-new works in response to the key issues facing Canadians in this election. Their work will be brought to life by members of Calgary’s professional theatre community including directors David van Belle, Iam Coulter and Aaron Coates in an evening that promises more sparks, ideas and engagement than any leaders’ debate or photo-op.
What is the Wrecking Ball?
The Wrecking Ball was founded in Toronto in November 2004 to address a nagging imbalance: too much theatre in our politics, not enough politics in our theatre. There have been eleven Wrecking Ball cabarets in Toronto, including a national event that saw Wrecking Balls staged semi-simultaneously in 10 cities across the country in 2008, in advance of the federal election. For more information, visit www.thewreckingball.ca.
